It was a chilly start (8 degrees Celsius) that greeted 19 walkers at the carpark next to the Waipori River.

Following the Antarctic-like weather that hit Otago overnight on Monday 3 August, an early call was made to postpone the trip to Puketapu, with an intent to substitute with a walk down the Silverstream to its confluence with the Taieri River.

The weather gods were certainly co-operative on Wednesday when 28 of us set off from Macandrew Bay towards Company Bay on our way to Larnach Castle.

Forty hardy souls met at Bayfield Park adorned with appropriate winter gear to counteract the crisp beautiful winter’s day.

An overcast, but dry morning, saw 19 keen trampers convene at the end of Hall Rd, then set off at 10.15 am through Graham’s Bush for Mt Cutten and the nearby Len Lye memorial.
