IMG 3584 thumbnail19/08/2026. Trip Government Track to Pylons and Return. Grade 4. Trampers.  Leaders: John Barratt and Graeme Souter.

It was a chilly start (8 degrees Celsius) that greeted 19 walkers at the carpark next to the Waipori River.

Starting off with the usual joy of the muddy zigzag at the start of the track. The track was in very good condition considering the recent rain fall in the area, and some minor track damage since the recce added to the fun. Morning tea was 40 minutes into the walk , a big happy birthday to Gail, we all appreciated the chocolates.

Then a continuous walk up the hill for 2.5 hours towards the pylons,

I was reminded of the long trips Christchurch “how long to go, are we there yet”.

We were greeted by a spot sunshine and a welcome lunch break.
