18 Keen trampers headed down to Aramoana to walk Hayward point.
On our way we were notified that the road was closed by a slip. As we were meeting the town trampers at Port Chalmers a new plan was evolving.
The weather was looking rather unpleasant, so we decided to continue up to the Heyward Point track.
On arrival the weather looked more promising, all were dressed for what the weather was going to throw at us, so we headed down a new track just a few meters before where the Heyward track starts.
The quarry. Finding our way down with no recce we managed well, with morning tea in the trees out of the wind.
Continuing on we climbed a few fences to the big climb up over the hill to Heyward Point.
Farmer Graham found a poor old sheep on her last legs. He tried to put her back on all fours but couldn’t prevail, Always a farmer.
We walked with that 90 degree angle due to strong winds and had lunch near the end of the track towards the Point.
During lunch we decided to return back to the cars via Heywood Point Track fighting the elements and mud. We all had a great day.
