23/09/2026. Longridge Road Circuit. Grade 2. Hikers. Leaders: Katrina McKenzie and Julie MacKenzie
On a cold morning 17 happy hikers gathered at the start of Longridge Road for a walk into the forest.
With a very cold wind blowing we headed into the shelter of the trees. Lots of chatter which didn’t really subside as we made our way up hill. Can’t have been working them hard enough.
Morning tea in the shelter of the trees as the sun tried hard to come through the cloud.
Ever upward until we reached the turn off to Smeaton’s Face Road
where we meet a dog walker and her well behaved 10 dogs.
Along Smeaton’s Face and what goes up must go down as we made our way back down the hill to Macintyre Road
and a short walk to remains of old building called Smeaton’s shack.
Lunch was had here in the sun and out of the wind.
Then on toward the water race and a short walk to inspect the old aqueduct and various pieces of old machinery connected to the original Dunedin water scheme.
For many people it was a first time into this part of our world. Then back to the cars. About 11kms on the move. A nice day out on an otherwise dull day.
