25 hikers set out on a very pleasant morning for our walkabout.

Parking up in Law Street & South Road we were joined by the 3 town folk & walked along to shabby Caversham bemoaning the loss of Mitchells Tavern.

We carried on up to the old South Road where we stopped for morning tea and a nice ramble around Alan McKenzie’s abundant garden (Jan Yardley’s brother). Alan told us of the interesting years living there, starting off with a blank canvas and building up to which is now a thriving vege and flower garden.  He even has advocado trees growing successfully down the bottom of the garden. and a few more interesting fruits & veges.  A real micro climate he reckons. He sells at the Farmers Market every Saturday. He is also a rockhound and has a very large collection of rocks, crystals etc.

We finally managed to drag Browns cows away & carried on up South Road to turn left into Sidey Street taking in the beautiful views of the harbour as we walked around to Corstorphine Road and crossed over to pass Corstorphine House and head up a track which brought us out to the Kew side where we began our down hill journey.

We were spared the steep Killicrankie lane as there was  water leaking across part of the lane which made it a bit tricky & slippy we found on our recce. At a juncture most of the group turned right then left into the lane that takes you down to Forbury Corner past Francis Hodgin’s Village.  A few of us carried on down the hill and we all met up again at Forbury Corner where we walked around to the playground to sit in the sun and have our well earned lunch.

Some on the steps and some on the grass just opposite the Sara Cohen school.  It was a bit hard to get going again – but we did – walk down South Road to turn left & up and around a grassy track taking us to the overhead bridge and up and across – getting a few toots as we did – and down the other side turning right to walk along a pathway taking us down to the Glen and back to our cars.

We covered approx 8 kms at a leisurely pace. Refreshments were at one of our fav places Village Green.
Thanks Pam Clough our leader with the 2 Jan’s bringing up the rear.
