Three Peaks, Escarpment, Cloud Forest Loop

150 square12/11/2025. Three Peaks, Escarpment, Cloud Forest Loop. Grade 3.5. Trampers.  Leaders: Sarah McCormack and Karen McInnis.
22 trampers set off from Sullivans dam in blustery conditions but it was sunny and not cold.

After walking round the dam, we headed into the bush on the Cloud Forests of Leith Track where it was a bit less windy.

There was a bit of boardwalk, a bit of slushy mud, a bit of a climb (only 300m over the whole day), a bit of slippery stuff, quite a few bits to get under and bits to get over, a bit of prickly stuff, a bit of a view, a bit of fun. We came out at the pylons into a bit of a gale, a bit of an awesome view that we couldn’t stop to enjoy for fear of getting blown off the top.

We decided to walk further on for a bit of morning tea.

Carried on along the pylon/forestry road until we came to the Three Peaks Track. Here we turned for a bit more up, a bit more prickly stuff and a bit more mud. When we arrived at Cowan Road, the bit of a wind had increased and we found a semi sheltered stop, looking over the Silverpeaks for a bit of lunch.

Then we headed back down Three Peaks Track and the forestry road to the bottom half of Three Peaks Track, walking through a bit of forestry.

Coming out onto the Leith Valley Road just by the overbridge we walked back up to Sullivans Dam and the cars.

A bit of coffee was had at the Blacks Road Grocer after a great day out covering a bit under or a bit over 8km depending on who was asked.
Sarah & Karen with thanks to Lynley for joining us on the recce.
