Cedar Farm to Mt Cutten

On a bright sunny morning with no wind 12 of us set off up to the Cedar Farm reservoir.

The walk around the reservoir was a little more challenging than expected due to the recent autumnal weather. A few chose to return at the halfway point and we all met again for morning tea on the banks of the reservoir.

After our leisurely morning tea in the sunshine we started the uphill climb of Mt Cutten.

There were challenging places due to trees/stumps lying across the path (past windstorms). Ducking/crawling to get under some branches and scrambling over rocks was required. Plus there were places that were overgrown and bushwhacking was necessary. However we took our time and we soon made it to the top.

Everyone was impressed with the stunning panoramic view of the Otago Harbour and surrounds. Many were surprised to see this wonderful view as they emerged from the bush.  We looked over to Andrew Drummond’s “Len Lye Tribute” sculpture which stands on the Mt Cutten escarpment.

After lunch we headed back down. The downhill return trip took a bit of negotiating! The hike was around 6 kms.
