29/07/2027. Government Track. Grade 2.5. Hikers . Leaders: Katrina McKenzie and Julie MacKenzie
On a sunny, calm Wednesday morning 23 hikers gathered at the carpark beside the Waipori River just beyond the Government Track Sign
A short walk back down the road then up a rather muddy zig zag had us onto the track proper. Walking conditions were amazing.

The track is in very good condition.

We walked for about 30 minutes then had our morning tea in the bush beside the track.

Because the gradient is so gradual lots of chatter going on.

Across the stile and onto the open farmland.

It was still relatively early but consensus was that we would have lunch in the sun with the view up the Waipori Valley

and after lunch walk a further half hour to the beech forested area.

We then retraced our footsteps back the way we came to the cars,

arriving about 2.30 having covered about 8 kms. As a number of the group hadn’t been up the track it was a perfect introduction. A number of the group stopped at Outram for refreshments on the way home. A very enjoyable day out
