22/07/2026. Memorial Park, Mosgiel and return. Grade 1. Hikers. Leaders: Shirley and Noel McRandle.
38 hikers left Memorial Park on a pleasant morning and walked along the banks of the Silverstream.

After about an half hour we stopped at the Otago Helicopters where we were welcomed and delivered an excellent presentation of their activities generally and the rescue service by Doug Flett.

He described the workings and capabilities of helicopters then took us through to the workshop where a helicopter was being stripped down for its 600 hour check.

A collection was taken for the rescue Trust.

After our morning tea we walked down Wingatui Road across to Hagart-Alexander Drive, pausing at the site of the proposed Summerset Retirement Village, around Owhiro Avenue to the Brookland village where we had our lunch.

After lunch we walked through to the Mosgiel BMX track via footpaths, roads and walkways. After a short stop at the pump track we made our way back to Memorial Park. The hike was approximately 9.5kms with very pleasant conditions.
19 hikers enjoyed a drink and chat at the Grange afterwards.
