Mid Winter Luncheon

Square17/06/26. Mid Winter Luncheon. Leaders: Committee Members.
The Club’s mid-winter lunch at Concord Inn went off without a hitch. For $25/head members each received a filling meal, with an excellent, pre-chosen menu choice, followed by Frozen Direct Chocolate cake, supplied by the Club. The staff were mightily impressed with Jenni Wright’s colour-coded menu which simplified the accurate serving of meals. However, the pre-lunch excursion down to Tunnel Beach was forestalled by a weather forecast containing chilling wind and rain and cancellation was notified to all by email at 8am.

There were no real complaints from the 58 attendees who attended at midday, although the irony of the prevailing warm sunshine was not lost. President John recited what has become the Club’s Grace, a legacy of former member, Ian Fleming, who wrote it specifically for our Tramping Club. We were blessed with the company of life members Jim & Betty Finnie and Jill Dodd. There was a lot of chatter over meals followed by tea/coffee and cake, with festivities winding up before 2pm.

Incidentally, John and Barbara had undertaken a late afternoon recce the week prior, in beautiful sunshine, along with a lot of others. The new track down from the sealed car park and toilets is much more user friendly than the original track, and to be recommended – approximately 1 hour return, including some time beachcombing. On the day of the recce there had been a seal on the rocky foreshore at the foot of the tunnel steps, totally ambivalent to all the comings and goings.
