25/02/2026. Jubilee Hut from Silver Peaks Station. Grade 5. Trampers. Leaders: Martin and Robyn Hickley.
Fifteen trampers set off earlier than usual because of a road closure between Outram Glen and Hindon. We travelled via Lee Stream school instead. Sunny anticyclonic conditions overhead and light northerlies warmed us as we left the Silver Peaks Station’s wool shed on an undulating four wheel drive track.

It wasn’t long till we met the station manager, Hayden, who had just moved a large mob of Angus cows and calves. They were going our way!

Progress was cautiously slow for a while until we dropped down into Christmas Creek.

At the confluence we followed Cave Creek which included a few easy river crossings.

The route became increasingly overgrown at which point Graham T. and Phil M. used their tools to clear the way. Great work.

Before long we were in a shady beech glade by the creek before climbing up to Jubilee hut for a welcome lunch stop.

It was a hot walk out but there were plenty of drink stops.

Seven hours had elapsed by the time we passed the barking dogs in their crates by the cars. It was a good opportunity to access the Silver Peaks Scenic Reserve from a less frequented route. Tired but happy trampers left this wonderful open hill country. The club is grateful once again to the station owners for their gracious access.
