On a crisp frosty morning 16 hardy trampers met in the frost at the Silverstream carpark…….
and started walking up Raceman’s track at 9.25am. We welcomed a new tramper, Alison who is John Gardiner’s neighbour.
Graham led the way up and after the initial grunt after leaving the valley floor we stopped for morning tea/coffee.
Neil led the next part to the trig at 505 metres passing the Freeman seat and the Amies’ view on the way. We continued down North Coal Creek track to the ‘rocks’ for lunch and sat in the sun looking north to Pulpit Rock and the Green Hut Ridge track.
After lunch Graham led us down to Racemans track having negotiated the area of irregular rocks with ‘dexterity’!
By now it was a footslog down Racemans back to the cars.
Many trampers had been up Steve Amies before but the North Coal Creek track was a ‘first’ for many. A wonderful tramp with wonderful people on a wonderful day!
