It was so chilly in our usual Mosgiel meeting place, our car at least discussed drinking our coffee and returning home, however the temperature at Portobello was balmy by comparison.

24 of us sailed forth, stopping for the mandatory cuppa after the short climb up the first hill.

The sun was out and we were treated to lovely views – as we were all day. Walking along Hoopers Inlet we were treated to watching a seal swim up to the water’s edge. He- or perhaps she, then sat up on its flippers to have a good look at us. We are so fortunate in this part of the country with the countryside, birds, seals etc that we get to enjoy.

From hoopers Inlet we continued up the Nyhon Track, before dropping down to have lunch at the base of Harbour Cone. Our extra layers of clothing were appreciated.
