Annual Report 2006

PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2006

I have much pleasure in presenting the 19th Annual Report of the Taieri Recreational Tramping Club to you.

I begin on a note of sadness as we remember the passing of  2 members, both of long standing, Peggy Maxwell, who was a Life Member of this Club and Eric Bennett.

Our club has continued to enjoy a very successful tramping programme over this last year in spite of 4 Wednesdays being cancelled due to the weather.
The number of members turning out has been very good with an average of 27, made up of 11 Trampers, 12 Hikers and 4 Ramblers.

The Christmas Lunch was at Wingatui with40 attending. The mid-winter Lunch at the Shiel Hill Tavern was again well supported with 48 enjoying each other’s company over the meal.
The Club had on one camp in the past year, that being at Glenburn near Geraldine, 15 attended what was a very enjoyable camp.
After the cancellation of last summer’s club bus tour to Blenheim, a camp was planned at short notice for Alexandra in April, but insufficient interest from members meant that this also had to be cancelled.
Bus Trips – In October 39 went to Roxburgh, and in May 36 travelled to Miller’s Flat to follow the route of the old railway line back down to Beaumont. Both< of these trips were very well supported and successful.

The club bus tour to Blenheim last March was cancelled, due to insufficient numbers. However with< a grant of $3000.00 having been received from Pub Charity, and still on hand, a revised tour to Greymouth for next February has been planned and is fully booked.
I would like to thank the members of the sub-committees who organize both of these tours.

Financial Membership for the year was 84 including 4 Life Members. We had 2 resignations during the year – Eleanor Watt and Irene Morrison, but we welcomed 3 new members – Diana Mellon, Glenys Newton and Marjorie Spittle.

I want to acknowledge the good work of the Track Committee who meet twice yearly to sort out the club’s tramping programme. Thank you also to the weekly tramp leaders for carrying out their duties so willingly. Thank you also to Peter for turning up at the carpark each week to take the roll call.

I want again to say a very special thank-you to those who served on the committee this past year, for their contribution. I think that the committee members have worked very well together on your behalf.
My final thanks go to the Vice President, and others, who stood in for myself again on various occasions when I was unable to be present due to work commitments.
Thank you and Happy Tramping. – Arthur Heenan, August 2006.
