09/03/2025 to 14/03/2025 . Queenstown Camp. – Wye Creek, Kawarau Bike Trail, Gibbston Tavern. Trampers, and Hikers. Leaders: Anne and Rod Ward, Di and Chris Bezett.

only 3.5kms round trip but quite a climb up alongside the pipe for the Wye Creek power station at the bottom end, the walk included 300m of narrow walkway along the top of water pipes, with some not liking to look down, the water intake structures were of great interest as they had been there since mid 1920’s.

The water was pristine and so clear. The trip ended with us hearing rifle shots around the valley so a quick decent and a call to DOC to report this. Apparently allowed.

and walked to the Gibbston Tavern a 7.5kms walk along the bike trail, an easy walk around the proposed golf course and village, both groups meet for lunch at the Gibbston Tavern for pizza, ginger beer and social ending to a very successful week exploring the Queenstown area.

Some departed for home today others went back to the camp for a leisurely afternoon another great meal and departure the next morning.
