A very frosty morning greeted all 18 of us trampers as we arrived at the Henley end of the Millennium track.

With the later winter start time, it was about 10.20am when we headed off down the track by the white house.

The Taieri river was a muddy brown with very still reflections as we walked along side it and into the native bush.

The track is still in good condition but with a bit of wild pig rooting here and there and the odd slippery uphill patches.

It really is a treat to see the many ferns including silver ferns growing so well here, even one remarkable looking Matai tree near the track.
After walking a few kms we enjoyed a break for morning tea amongst the ferns. Then continuing on our way towards the lookout, with plenty of the usual chatter and fantails keeping an eye on our progress through the bush.

Lunch and sunshine were our reward as we arrived at the lookout with lovely river and ocean views.

Then we retraced our steps back along the track towards our cars. The highlight of our day being a pair of Kereru flying and swooping amongst the trees, they gave us a wonderful aerobatic display for several minutes.
Arriving back at the cars after walking about 10.5 km, we then enjoyed the usual coffee and catchup at Wals.
