16/04/2025. Leisman Falls, Powder Hill, Chalkies Circuit. Grade 4. Trampers. Leaders: Katrina McKenzie, Julie MacKenzie
It was a lovely morning after not so great forecasts. 16 trampers set out from Whare Flat car park for a 10 minute walk back up the road to the start of the track.

Into lovely native bush past the old hut at the weir.

The rock face with the knotted rope once terrified me, didn’t faze anyone!!

Morning tea along the track amongst the Manuka trees. We could hear the wind howling through pine trees on the opposite ridge. We were mostly sheltered from the cool edge to that breeze as we climbed steadily up and up, eventually out onto a forestry track.

We walk along the edge of the pine trees then cut across to the trig, a fairly insignificant sight!

We head back along to the track heading towards Chalkies and the Silverstream. Not many options off track for stopping for lunch but each of us found a tussock to sit on.

A quick look at the sandstone cliffs and we continue down through Manuka, pretty dry through there but a very muddy stretch then we’re onto the road.

Boots get a wash as we cross the ford and back to the cars. Not a long walk but we enjoyed our day and a pleasant cuppa at Wals.
