11/04/2025 Flax/ Track Clearing. Trampers. Leader: Phil Keene.
The famous 5 emerged to take on the challenge ‘up on Swampy’ and were underway on Upper Swinespur by just after 9am; a stunning drive up through Rollinsons Rd – no haze, just a big panorama.
Graham and Sarah volunteered to head to the bottom where the track meets Possumbusters and work back up, whilst Jenny John and Phil machined and raked going down; we met up as planned on the Swinespur North face, for some not unlike the Eiger…
We trudged back to the cars after lunch and headed on down to the Rollinsons Rd entrance for the Possumbusters track, it had not been done for a while and we only pinpointed where to start with the aid of NZ Topo! A similar strategy here, with Graham heading for the hills and Phil eventually catching up, sort of. This area had not been cleared for a season or two and showed it, but we managed to cut but maybe not fully ‘tidy up’ through to the Swinespur junction.
A big effort by everyone but special ‘mention’ to Sarah who did the Eiger twice.
Now that’s another story. 22 degrees back in town had us enjoying an ice cream as our just desserts. Thanks again everyone – Phil
