Stonehurst Track

150x15026/02/2025 Stonehurst Track. Grade 4. Trampers.  Leaders: Jill Reid, Sylvie Watt.
19 keen trampers left Mosgiel at 8.30am on a lovely Wednesday morning. It did not take long to reach McHardy Gladbrook Rd near Middlemarch then a short drive to the DOC track.

The look of the Rock and Pillar climb looked daunting. Then, having climbed over a few fences thru a bog we were on our way.

The wind was warm but blowing strongly, it was not long before jackets came off and then it was heads down slowly chugging upwards.

The views were amazing, Salt Lake, Saddle Hill, the jigsaw of colour on the farms well below us.

What a height we had climbed being 800m.

It was fascinating to see all the rock formations on our journey.
Finding a lunch stop out of the wind was a mission but we are now heading down “be careful of the slippery tussocks”, whoopsie, then it’s over a few fences and we are back at the cars.
