22/01/2025. Cedar Farm to Mt Cutten. Grade 3. Hikers. Leaders: Heather Reid, Val Cayford.
22 hikers left Peter Johnson Park at 9am in brilliant sunshine and the promise of a lovely day.
Port Chalmers greeted us with cloud and a cold wind and everyone looking for jackets to cover bare arms.
However once we were on the steady climb climb up the road to Cedar Farm reservoir things warmed up.
The reservoir was like a mill pond and we enjoyed a walk through bush around the perimeter-over the bridge to morning tea in the sun.
After morning tea we headed down to the Mt Cutten track. A couple of people decide to stay and enjoy the reservoir and 19 of us tackled the steady climb through the trees-up and over such rocky stuff.
The absence of a lot of track markers led to a couple of miss turns but we made it to the top and were greeted with amazing views-up-down and around our wonderful harbour.
Lunch was enjoyed on the top in the sun with the odd fluffy cloud skidding by. The track down also included an off track experience but we all made it back to the reservoir to meet up with those we left behind.
Great company-some lovely wildflowers and lots of bright red toadstools added colour to our day.
Santosha Cafe in Port Chalmers was our stop for afternoon tea.
Thanks for joining us.
Val and Heather Reid.
