4 December Waihola Trampers Square Photo John04/12/2024. Waihola – new cycleway/walk. Grade 3. Trampers.  Leaders: Heather Kirk and Jenny Wilton. We arrived at the start of the track in Waihola at 9.30 am where there is plenty of parking, toilets and lovely views of the lake.

After a group photo at the large frame provided, we set off.

Thinking with the weather forecast predicting more high temperatures and strong winds, we would try to get back reasonably early. The new board walk is excellent really wide and curving around the edge of the lake offering nice views of elegant black swans, ducks and rolling greens hills
beyond.

We were glad of our comfortable walking shoes on the rather firm gravel track.

We had morning tea after 3 km in a grassy spot then continued around
the track. We did see a few cyclists also enjoying their day and passed
some rather fine homes that look out onto the lake.

We had lunch in the shade off the track after walking 7 km, then we returned the way we had come.

It was good to arrive back at our cars by 2.30pm after 14km walked, as the temperature was certainly rising. Ice creams were enjoyed and then homeward bound.
