Around Harbour Cone

Listening to the heavy rain coming down on Tuesday night I don’t think too many of us thought we would be out hiking the next day. However the rain stopped and the tramper’s walk was cancelled so a group of 18 hikers and trampers turned up at the Broad Bay Boat Club to walk the ‘Around Harbour Cone’ hike.

It wasn’t really ‘around’ but more a loop on the Broad Bay side of the cone.
We walked along the cycle/walkway to Bacon Street, had a stop for morning tea in the clearing at the start of the right hand track and then started our climb following the yellow markers across farmland to Highcliff Road.

We crossed the road and continued our climb to Coffee Rock for the views!

Well Harbour Cone was completely enveloped in cloud but we did get misty views of both the harbour and Hoopers Inlet.

A short walk along Highcliff Road to our lunch stop in the sheltered area by the ruins of the old Allens House.

Across the road again and then the descent down the quite slippery track beside the fenceline to Bacon Street.

Back to our cars via a short detour from the cycle/walkway into the cemetery on the point at Broad Bay.

The Duck in Macandrew Bay was our last stop of an enjoyable hike of approximately 8.5k. What a bonus it was that we were able to get a walk in on a threatening day.
