Raingauge Ridge – Steve Amies

25/09/2024  Raingauge Ridge – Steve Amies        Grade 4.5. Trampers.  Leaders: Neil Hodgkin and Sarah McCormack.

Square 150As I write this, I can’t help thinking that yesterday we were so lucky with the weather.

As I arrived at PJ Park, I thought what a great turnout, but as the trampers got out of the 3 cars up Rollinson’s Road, we only had 11 trampers willing to give it a go!
It was a bit fresh for a start with isolated patches of snow but by the time we walked up the road to the ‘Elbow’ we had all warmed up. As expected, it was wet and muddy under foot in places but nothing we couldn’t cope with.

We stopped for morning tea/coffee in a nice sunny flat clearing.

We then continued on down to Raceman’s and the Silverstream with the help of a couple of ropes. We had lunch in a sunny spot on the Raceman’s track halfway to the start of the Steve Amies track where we all shed a layer of clothing ready for the steep ascent, initially anyway.

This is a nice track with the usual ups and downs and there were a few slippery patches after all the rain we had had.

We came out of the bush onto Rollinson’s Road and reached the parked vehicles which we had left 6.25 hours earlier!
It was a great adventure, and we all felt pleased with ourselves that we had ‘ticked it off’ despite a bit of grunting!
