Many of the artists have painted more than one mural and we certainly became very good at distinguishing the different techniques and styles that these artists use.
The general consensus was just how amazing the artists are to create these murals- the enormity of them, the amazing attention to detail, the stories behind them, and all the art elements used.

We were very fortunate to come across a very knowledgeable guy who took us on a tour through Garrison Hall on Dowling Street. This historical building was built in 1877 to be used as a drill hall for the volunteer militias. 1917-1937 Garrison Hall served as Dunedin’s chief post office.
In 1962 the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation took over the building, filming many TV shows. One we all remembered was, ‘Spot On”.

Today the building is occupied by Taylormade Media/ARL-Animation Research Ltd. Making television commercials, corporate videos, multiple television productions, advertising, documentary films and it is one of the top computer animation companies in New Zealand and known internationally for its work, particularly in television advertising and sports graphics.
Episodes of Moa’s Ark, hosted by David Bellamy, were filmed here. We were shown cave drawings created to emulate the ones from Lascaux, France. These were used in the filming of the documentary-cheaper than heading to France!

A bell sculpture made from the bluestone that was drilled from Bell Hill hangs impressively in this building, along with many other interesting features.
