10/07/2024. Street Art Trail and Surrounds, Grade 1.5. Hikers. Leaders: Wendy Langley, Val Cayford.
24 of us began our mural art journey walking from the Southern Cemetery, into town to view and learn about the many murals and their artists, around our city centre. Over 40 murals were critiqued by us today. Many of the artists have painted more than one mural and we certainly became very good at distinguishing the different techniques and styles that these artists use.
The consensus was just how amazing the artists are to create these murals- the enormity of them, the amazing attention to detail, the stories behind them, and all the art elements used.
We underestimated the timing of the art trail, thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm to view the pieces. So after a quick lunch at the Oval, we decided to look at a couple of murals in South Dunedin and save the other art works there for another walk!
Afternoon tea was enjoyed at the Mornington Taphouse.
