22/9/2010. Big Stone Road and forest. Leaders: Ria, Hazel.

A good days tramp was had by just 4 of us. We changed the tramp location due to the weather conditions, & went to Big Stone Rd forest, where Ria, & Hazel led us on a circular route through the forest.

Route map courtesy Ken's GPS.

We had lunch in a very nice spot by the stream, with the sun shining on us.

then it was a steep climb back up to the tops, & along the track back to the cars. We all enjoyed the day out. – Ken.

Plan C.
Plan A was Eldorado Track. But the leaders forewent that due to shortness and lack of interesting features.
Plan B was to do the new Leith Saddle Track but cold heavy driving mist at the carpark led to deciding on –
Plan C. Big Stone Road. We took the path through the forest paralleling the road till we came to the locked gate entrance. Here we turned off at a gravel pile and down a road into the forest. After some little distance we turned left onto a track and followed faint green arrows down a ridge to reach Lynda Road. We turned left and a little later overshot a track on the right and continued onto the loop we have done previously from Hope Hill. We lunched at the top gate into Hope Hill station and returned back down to a sharp corner where the road goes around a ridge. We went steeply down the ridge arriving at Lynda Road at the spot we had overshot on the way in.

Track we came down back down on to Lynda Road. Keith.

We then turned left and at the road end took a track to the right that climbed through the trees at an almost vertical (!) pitch to emerge onto the track by which we had come in at the gravel pile. Then it was back down to the cars at the bottom of Big Stone Road. – Ian.
